Florian Lorenz (Studio Laut): Developing streets as a community asset (urbanize! Festival 2022, Vienna)

7 October 2022

In Vienna the ›Supergrätzel Favoriten‹ resembles the first test site for the implementation of the superblock concept. Studio LAUT was commissioned by the City of Vienna’s Department for Urban Development and Planning (MA18) to bring about Vienna’s first superblock project and coordinated the ›Supergrätzl Favoriten‹ pilot phase in 2022. The project aimed to employ tactical means for a new traffic organization and was complemented by spatial interventions. As part of the urbanize! festival 2022, Florian Lorenz, of Studio LAUT, talks about their work during the good practice event ›Reclaim the Streets‹. Studio LAUT focuses on ›Streets as Commons‹ away from merely being traffic conveyers but an untouched public resource in Vienna.

Florian Lorenz is a landscape architect and process designer with a focus on public spaces, mobility and post-fossil urbanism. As co-founder of studio LAUT, he designs and accompanies urban transformation processes and cooperates in R&D projects on sustainable mobility and urban planning.
